Location...

The peaceful hamlet of Stow Bardolph, West Norfolk.

Just off the A10, about a mile north of the market town of Downham Market.

The Hare combines a cosy pub interior, great food and a friendly atmosphere.

Following our recent refurbishment and redecoration, the inn is even warmer, cosier and more welcoming!

Your Hosts...

Pat and Debs Palmer have a long association with The Hare Arms having met here while working behind its bar in 1987.

After running their own successful restaurant, Palmers, in Downham Market for over 15 years, Pat and Debs went on to takeover the lease of The Hare in July 2016.

The couple are excited to continue The Hare’s long tradition of good food, speedy, courteous service and comfortable, relaxing atmosphere.

Children...

Children are welcome in The Front Room and The Coach House when dining with their parents or guardians.

The Bar and Main Restaurant are primarily adult environments and children under-14 are not permitted.

Reservations...

Table reservations can be made throughout the building, The Restaurant, The Old Coach House, The Front Room and the bar.

Telephone reservations are easiest and preferred but during busy service time we can’t always answer calls.

Reservations can be requested via our Facebook page, by email (info@theharearms.co.uk) and by voicemail.

A member of our team will then contact you a soon as possible to clarify and confirm the booking.

Cats & Dogs...

The Hare is home to three adorable black and white cats, Winston, Tim and the mischievous Maggi who can often be found wandering the gardens, or asleep on a favourite chair.

Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome in our extensive front and rear garden areas.

Please respect the welfare of the peacocks.

We do not allow dogs in any inside areas.

Food...

The Hare prides itself on sourcing the very best local Norfolk and East Anglian produce. Our large menu includes classic pub food like ale-battered haddock and chunky chips alongside contemporary treats such as slow braised chicken in a mushroom, cream and tarragon sauce.

The main menu is supplemented by changing “daily specials” as well as a good vegetarian selection.

For current menus, please see our Menus Page.

Drink...

Good food needs good wine! As well as a complete wine list we have a range of very tasty house wines at reasonable prices.

For beer lovers, we serve locally brewed Greene King Ales as well as always having two guest ales available on tap. We have achieved 100% quality ratings for all our cask ales from Cask Marque, the independent national accreditors who recognise excellence in the service of cask ale.
